    What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are injections used to restore lost volume or add volume to the face and smooth out lines and wrinkles. They can be used to contour and add definition to the cheekbones, forehead, temple area, nose, chin, jawline, lips and brows. Also, they can help with excessive sweating by injecting the fillers to the desired area.

    What is the procedure duration?

The procedure usually takes 20-30 minutes, depending on the area(s) being treated. A small amount of Hyaluronic acid is carefully placed using a series of small injections and then the area is massaged to ensure the filler is evenly distributed.

Is there a post-treatment review and if yes, when?

A review appointment is arranged for 2 weeks after your treatment and it is arranged at the time of your procedure. This is included in the cost of your treatment.

What is the resulting effect, and will I see a difference straight away?

There will be a noticeable change visible straight away, but it takes 2 weeks to see the full result. This allows any initial redness or swelling to settle.

Botulinum toxin starts to work after 2-3 days, so there is no difference seen straight away. The full effect can be seen at 2 weeks. At the 2 weeks follow up, a free ‘top-up’ may be offered if an extra anti-wrinkle effect is desired.

How long will the result last? Are there any factors that can influence this?

Results can last 6-12 months, depending on the area being treated.

    Results can last 3-6 months.

This is dependent on the individual though and can be affected if the post-procedural recommendations are not followed.

    Is there an anaesthetic used?

A numbing cream is used to help ease any discomfort from the procedure. The filler also contains Lidocaine (unless you are allergic to it) which helps numb the area as the procedure progresses.

As this procedure is so quick and gentle, no anaesthetic is used.

Can I be back to work straight away?

Depending on the area being treated and the type of work you do, it should be safe for you to return to work straight away. There may be some redness and swelling (especially with Lip Filler), but as long as you feel comfortable, it would be fine to go to work.

Depending on the type of work you do, it is usually safe for you to return to work straight away.

Will the skin be sensitive or any other immediate side effects?

There may be some numbness and tingling due to the anaesthetic cream used and the due to the anaesthetic in the filler itself. This usually lasts 1-2 hours.

There is usually no ongoing sensitivity after this procedure.

Are there any risks and complications?

Every procedure involves a certain amount of risk, and you must understand that risks are involved. An individual’s choice to undergo a procedure is based on the comparison of the risks and benefits. Although the majority of patients do not experience these complications, you should discuss each of them with Dr Neena to make sure you understand the risks and potential complications.

Side effects are usually mild and temporary such as redness, swelling and mild pain for a few days after the procedure. It is important to follow post-procedural advice to reduce these risks. A hyaluronic acid-based filler is used. Over time, the filler is dissolved by the body causing no long-term complications to you. Every precaution is taken to reduce any risks of infection.

In the media, there is a lot of information about blockage of arteries causing severe damage to tissues as a result of misplaced filler. However, our Dermal Filler Practitioner, Dr Neena Farmah, is a fully qualified doctor trained in Aesthetic Procedures and the treatment of complications (in the unlikely event these would happen).

Side effects are usually mild and temporary, such as mild bleeding and bruising. Infection is unusual but should it occur, Dr Neena can treat this with antibiotics. There is also a low possibility of an unsatisfactory result from the procedure. In rare cases, local allergies to topical preparations have been reported. Systemic reactions, which are more serious, may result from drugs used during surgery and prescription medicines.

Allergic reactions may require additional treatment. Drooping of the eyelids (Ptosis) – This is a rare but transient complication occurring in 1-2% of patients having botulinum toxin to Crows feet area. All risks are minimised by following all the post-procedure advice given at the time of the procedure.

    Do you use hyaluronic acid?

Yes, all dermal fillers used in the clinic is Hyaluronic Acid.

Will the procedure hurt at all?

There is some discomfort from the procedure. This is minimised by using a numbing cream and if no allergies, using a filler that contains Lidocaine.

What Brand of dermal fillers are you using?

The leading brand of filler used in the Clinic is Teosyal.
